YLE Chairman Mr. Ahmed Fathi attended the 3rd MEDCOP Climate conference in Tangier, Morocco from June 22-23.
I was invited by active civil society organisations in Maghreb region to participate in discussions around climate change and the pre-MEDCOP session.
As a President of YLE and a representative of PACJA, I had a session in Pre-COP28.
The importance of the Mediterranean region and how African countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Morocco, are among the most affected by climate change was highlighted. The rising sea level will have a significant impact on coastal cities and towns in the coming years, and urgent action is needed to mitigate these effects and minimize loss and damage.
It was great to be part of the conversation and collaborate with other participants to find solutions for a sustainable future.
