Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, stated that the ministry's sponsorship of these campaigns comes from the ministry's belief in their importance, and the contribution of these initiatives to spreading awareness of the importance of preserving water resources.
The campaign started from the Syndicate of Engineers Club in Zamalek, and lasted for two hours, in the presence of Eng. Abdel Latif Khaled, advisor to the Ministry to follow up on the implementation of modern irrigation projects, Mr. Ahmed Fathy, President of the “Youth Love Egypt” Foundation, and Engineer Hala Obada, a member of the Engineers Syndicate Board of Directors. .
A quantity of plastic waste was removed using light equipment from small boats, taking care to collect the waste in burlap sacks to prevent the use of plastic sacks. The Nile River Protection and Development Sector of the Ministry also contributed to disinfecting the waterway after the campaign using the sector’s equipment.
This campaign is based on raising awareness of the danger of plastic waste, and the need to reduce dependence on it. The campaign aims to maintain the cleanliness of the Nile River and to introduce the negative effects of plastic on human health, living organisms and the environment.
