YLE Foundation organizes the regional conference on climate change policies

The regional conference on climate change activities of policies organized by YLE Foundation in cooperation with PACJA, the German Foundation CRISP Berlin and the Sudanese Environmental conservationist Association were concluded, as part of the conclusion of the second year of the ARCH program to build the capacities of civil society institutions in the field of climate change.

The participants in the conference, from civil society organizations, presented the policy papers they worked upon throughout the program period, in addition to these papers addressing important topics such as involving children in environmental awareness through camps such as “Wadi Degla Children’s Camp”, as well as focusing on the role of technology and digital platforms in enabling international cooperation and integrating migrant children into local communities.

The conference witnessed active participation from representatives of Sudanese organizations via Zoom technology, where Sudan’s efforts in the field of sustainable development and addressing climate change through training and capacity building through the ARCH project were discussed.

The event has presented the outputs of the policy and project tracks, where the participants presented a summary of their work and efforts, and funding of 500 euros was granted to a number of distinguished projects to support their implementation.

Mr.Ahmed Fathy, Executive Director of YLE Foundation, stressed that this cooperation reflects the importance of the regional partnership between Egypt and Sudan to confront common climate challenges, explaining that this approach is commitment of YLE Foundation to transform ideas and policies into practical projects on the ground that contribute to addressing climate change, in addition to empowering youth and their role in climate awareness. Fathy stated that during the conference, the Foundation’s participation in COP28 was reviewed, and a group of youth will be selected to participate in COP 29 in Azerbaijan.

The conference witnessed the attendance of a large number of participants, reaching 90, and the attendance of a number of prominent figures, headed by Engineer Ahmed Kamal, Director of the Environmental Compliance Office at the Federation of Industries, Engineer Lydia Aliwa, representing the Ministry of Environment, and members of the House of Representatives and Senate from the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians, Representative Nader Mustafa, Member of the House of Representatives, Parilment Representative Ahmed Moqalled, Member of the House of Parilment Representatives, in addition to Representative Mohamed Ismail, Member of the House of Representatives, Senate Representative Noha Zaki, Deputy  of the Environment Committee in the Senate, and Representative Ragia El-Fakki, Member of the Senate, in addition to heads of partner civil society institutions and organizations.

It is worth noting that the “YLE” Foundation selected 25 young men and women from outside the foundation to participate in the event, with the aim of enhancing youth participation in climate awareness. They were also invited to attend a three-day camp in Fayoum in celebration of Youth Climate Adaptation Day, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to empowering youth to face climate challenges.
