Day 6 of Cop29 : Driving Digital Innovation for a Sustainable Future

On its sixth day in Baku, COP29 continues to spark transformative conversations on climate action. In the Green Zone, the spotlight was on “Empowering Youth for a Digital Climate Revolution”—a dynamic panel hosted by the COP29 operating company in partnership with Cisco. Esteemed speakers including Kęstutis Kupšys, Leila Hasanova, and Marie de Witsouki underscored the pivotal role of youth in leveraging digital technology to advance sustainability, drive climate initiatives, and monitor environmental impacts effectively.

A key milestone was the endorsement of the COP29 declaration on green digital work, supported by over 90 governments and 1,000 members of the technology community. This collaborative effort aims to accelerate digital transformation, energy efficiency, and climate action across sectors, particularly in developing countries.

COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev hailed Digital Day as a turning point, urging the tech industry to address its environmental footprint. Simultaneously, the session emphasized the critical role of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) in ensuring climate stability while protecting indigenous rights.

As G20 leaders gear up for their summit, the call for bold, unified climate action grows louder. Promising developments, such as the historic $2 trillion investment in clean energy this year, signal progress. Meanwhile, industries like fashion face increased scrutiny for their environmental impacts, reminding us that every sector has a part to play in the fight against climate change.

Today’s discussions underscored a clear message: Collective effort, digital innovation, and community empowerment are the cornerstones of a sustainable future.

Let’s keep the momentum going.
